Let Girls Learn

Malala Yousafzais once said “So let us wage a global struggle against illiteracy, poverty and terrorism and let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education First.”

Look upon “Education is the only solution.” When you educate a child, a girl, you educate an entire nation. So why is it that more than 62 million girls worldwide are not enrolled in school? Education is a requirement in places like America, Canada and England where in places like the middle east, impoverished countries in Africa and impoverished Central American countries (i.e. Nicaragua) education is a privilege. More children don’t attend school, rather than do, in places like that due to lack of resources or not being allowed to attend based on their gender.

Malala is known as the girl who was shot in the head by a member of the Taliban for going to school and practicing her right to an education. This disgusting act of hatred and fear shed light on a huge problem going on around the world. Education is the only solution to acts such as this.

Michelle Obama partnered with the Peace Corps to create the organization called “Let Girls Learn,” a program that is apart of the Peace Corps mission to help all around the world. This organizations mission is to simply supply educational opportunities to girls who otherwise wouldn't have access to it. Places like Afghanistan, Liberia, Morocco, India, Rwanda, Ghana, Jordan, Pakistan, Tanzania, Malawi and over 35 more countries world wide.

Over the last two and a half years the First Lady has created a program and expanded that program to aid millions of girls all over the world. Being an American women, I often take my education for granted. Its the normal way of life here. With that in mind, I feel that its only fair to become a part of it, help in any way that I can. That is why I urge you all to get involved. Spread the word, let people know that their is a way for them to help girls all over the world get the education they deserve. Donate, even if it’s $1, that single dollar could help in ways you don’t know. Volunteer, join Michelle Obama and the other collaborators of “Let Girls Learn” in this fight. Go to Ghana and help out first hand. Join the Peace Corps, not only to help the millions of girls, but to help yourself. See that our education is, and always will be, our most important weapon. Our help is what these girls need.
