Types of Feminism

Something that not many people know is that there are many different types of Feminism, or you may just not know what the different types are. People identify as different types of feminism but the end goal is always the same, equality for all genders and sexes. The different types of feminism are caused by different beliefs of female inequality. So without further ado, here are some of the more well known types of feminism!

Liberal Feminism- individualistic theory that women attempt to gain equality through actions and words. One main goal of liberal feminists is gender equality in the public eye for example, education, equal pay, working conditions and political rights. Some popular liberal feminists are, Harriet Tubman, Betty Friedan, Naomi Wolf and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Radical Feminism- their goal is to eliminate the concept gender completely because they believe sexism is so deeply rooted in society. This is the most extreme form of feminism. They want to challenge social norms and eliminate male supremacy, they believe that women oppression roots from social roles and institutional structures. A goal of theirs is to end Patriarchy, the belief that males hold all the power.

Socialist Feminism- “A movement that calls for an end to capitalism through a socialist reformation of our economy.” This type focuses more on economic and political inequality. One of their main arguments is that men are the ones with the power and the money and that promotes sexism in the workplace. Because men are currently the ones in power, women are given fewer opportunities and paid less for the same work.

Cultural Feminism- this movement contrasts how society is hurt by masculine influences and how it could benefit from feminine influences. A common argument for this type of feminism that that males are more aggressive and competitive, whereas females are kinder and gentler. Cultural Feminists want to see female influences and empowerment in society.

There are many many more types of feminism but these are the 4 common ones. There are many different aspects of these types of feminism as well, i only gave a brief overview of them!
